Tales from the Cryptic Contractor

Is it a haunted mansion or spooky castle?  No, but it is a stately older farmhouse coming back to life! Walk through the awakening with us as we share some of the beginning stages of a back from the dead – rather remodel – of this century farmhouse. On a sunny day back in June we innocently pulled up to this stately farmhouse. The owners of this rural beauty had invited us to help them remodel the house and include an addition. So of course we brought in the big toys!! Digging up the grave, no, the dirt and making big piles was one of the first steps. Then we brought in the cement to bury, or rather, chute in the footer foundation. Ooooo… Ever wonder what’s under those piles of rock and dirt? MORE rock and dirt! By mid-July there was the beginnings of the crypt, no… rather the basement of the new addition! What’s around the next corner you ask? Why another large truck of course! With more rocks… gravel As we neared the end of July, we had a nice base for a front porch with matching headstones, no… block! “So far so good!”, the Cryptic Contractor says as we left the job site having smoothed over the buried, no …disturbed landscape. Then, came August and a bright sunny afternoon to bring in some more treachery we masked as materials. We should be able to hide quite a lot of …. Ummm… tricks or treats with these! By the end of the month we had committed lots… completed lots of work. And we brought in more monstrous machines for some further destruction! What would be cooking in the cauldron for September? We visited the cemetery… no … the job site on a unsuspecting blue-skied afternoon. We had hand-crafted our newest eerie creation … the front porch! It is taking shape nicely! We were deliriously delighted to head into the darkness below the surface to our laboratory … no, the basement! The bones, rather walls needing some bracing and the beams were jack (o-lanterned) up. Even the upper chambers .. ground level rooms are starting to look skeletal! Finally, the cobwebs cleared and it’s October! We’ve been able to disguise the interior of this gruesomely haunted castle… no, lovely home, but it’s coming further to life inside! The outside, while transforming slowly, is still costumed as an abandoned mummy mansion… perfect!
